The Moonlit Path is the 1914 journal of Katherine Willard, a 32-year-old artist and avid gardener in Oakland, California, who has no clue that the year will turn extremely eventful for her. Katherine is an independent woman in a world run by men and an artist in a profit-driven society - and old secrets still trouble her. As seen through Katherine's eyes, the U.S. in 1914 will feel very foreign to most readers, yet can help sharpen our picture of our own time. She begins the journal impulsively, in a blank garden journal given her for Christmas, but later in the year she uses it to help her confront new experiences and navigate among new challenges.
We get to know Katherine intimately, then watch her try to solve unexpected problems. A warning: this clear and candid look at the U.S. in 1914 may shock some, in that world's very different views on men and women, immigration, race, and other matters.
